Working to prevent gun violence for more than 30 years

The Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence (ICHV) educates the public about the epidemic of handgun violence and works to reduce death and injury caused by the easy accessibility of firearms in our society. For more than 30 years, ICHV has been a leader among state gun violence prevention groups, and has made numerous accomplishments to reduce gun violence in Illinos.

ICHV realizes our mission through public awareness, research publications and serving as an information source to concerned citizens, community groups, policy makers, health care professionals and law enforcement officials. ICHV works with community and professional organizations, including victims of firearm violence, to bring their perspective to gun violence prevention.

For more than 30 years, we have worked with the citizens of Illinois to keep firearms out of the hands of convicted felons, to mandate criminal background checks for firearms purchases by implementing the federal Brady Bill, and to require adults to keep their guns inaccessible to young children by passing the Illinois Child Access Prevention Law.

We continue to work to make our communities safer by educating people about the dangers of firearms and about what they can do to help solve the problem of more`than 30,000 Americans being killed by guns each year.

Please join us in our efforts to reduce gun violence today. Click on the "Count Me In!" link and become a member of ICHV. With your help, we can save lives.

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed."
-Dwight D. Eisenhower, U.S. general and 34th president (1890-1969)
